Get us back to work fueling America!

GEST has long recognized the impacts that the moratorium and subsequent permitting delays were having on the Gulf Coast economy.  The report from a recently commissioned study, Restarting “the Engine” — Securing American Jobs, Investment and Energy Security confirms that these impacts stretch far beyond the Gulf Coast, however, and affect Americans everywhere.

If we find a way to recharge the pace of plan/permit approvals for exploration and drilling activity, we can reinvigorate the Gulf of Mexico as a national economic engine and get Back to Work with American Energy!

The Challenge:   As Americans now face high gasoline prices, a record federal deficit and a weak economic recovery, everyone should be aware that we are not doing all we can to produce our very own domestic energy in the Gulf. The current pace at which the federal government is approving plans and permits significantly lags behind industry’s capacity to produce American energy and stimulate the national economy. As a result, the United States is missing a tremendous opportunity to stimulate the economy by creating and sustaining jobs, generating tax revenue and strengthening energy security, all a time when this country needs that boost the most.

The Solution:  The federal permtting process must be streamlined in order for this nation to get Back to Work with American Energy, creating jobs, stimulating the American economy and securing America's energy supply.

Restarting the stalled economic engine of the Gulf of Mexico will help meet the urgent national needs of job creation, increased tax revenues, and higher economic growth – as well as increased energy security.
